Initiatives for Discussion and Vote

  1. Proposal:  Change the name of the D Division to “Recreation/Novice”
    1. Align Division name with the requisite skill level of players and teams

This proposal will be added to the Agenda, discussed and voted on for next season in the SSWHL Pre-Season Meeting for the 2005-2006 season.

  1. Proposal: (RULE CHANGE) Make slap shots illegal in the D Division
    1. Beginners and risk

This proposal needs USA Hockey approval.  All changes to USA Hockey rules must be submitted to USA Hockey for approval.  No Vote taken and no action pending.

  1. Proposal:  Emphasize and enforce the rule regarding the requirement that only players that appear on the SSWHL roster can play for a team.  The exception is for teams that have hockey programs with multiple levels where the league will emphasize and enforce the “four play-up rule”.  A player can only play in four games for a team in a higher division than the player’s current team (player appears on the roster).  After the fourth game in the higher division the player is then moved to the roster of the team at the higher level.

This proposal was discussed and clarified.  No change made to the current Rule.

Final Comments / Wrap-up / Further Action

Laura Bowser discussed the number of penalties and suspensions.  Teams were encouraged to reduce penalties.

Bill Paulsen (Lead Referee) addressed the meeting.  He discussed the importance of providing feedback on referee performance to him in a timely manner. (within a week). This provides him the opportunity to investigate the circumstances, discuss the issues, and address the feedback.

He also clarified that players pursuing the puck are not allowed to make contact with opposing players enroute to the puck.

Michele Snowdon of the Manchester Lady Monarchs offered a game against the Lady Monarchs D team on April 2 (Saturday) at the Verizon Wireless Center in Manchester.  The game will be played prior to the Manchester Monarchs IHL game.  The details of the game and Michele’s contact information will be readdressed to the league in a separate email.
